I've just begun my PhD program & every student is saying the same thing...arrgghh! What's a dissertation! Where do I start & I'm terrified! Well I've been saying the same thing. For me, I'm the first college grad let alone a doctorate, so I feel like I'm floating in the middle of the ocean without a life preserver! This book was more like getting picked up by a cruise ship! Seriously, I rely on reviews very heavily so I really try to give you the best info I can. Inside this book is about everything I could ask for; samples, topics, research methodology, tips on selecting your chair, defending and step by step putting it all together. It is user friendly, well organized and well written. If I lost this I would buy it again cause its that good!

I got this book on the recommendation of a friend and I wish that I had gotten it much, much earlier! I think that this should be required reading for all first year doctoral students. I'm currently in my third year and writing my dissertation and this book has been a huge help in guiding me forward. They outline each chapter for you, although you may make some modifications according to your own dissertation/chair/university. The way they break down the dissertation into smaller steps is what makes this book so great - writing a dissertation feels overwhelming and as a student, its difficult to figure out how to organize and break it down.
